Questions about Sydney Pro

Dear reader,

After spending a week working with your Sydney theme today I decided to buy your Sydney Pro theme. First of all my compliments for your brilliant theme, the documentation and this support forum. After making real progress I have a few questions about the theme before i can finalize my website. I was hoping that you could help me with the following questions.

For all my pages I am using the ‘full width’ template. I would like to use a different header for every page. Can you tell me if this is possible? Also I would like to know if it is possible to change the color of the title of every page? The default color is a bit grey and I would like to use a specific color orange. Is this possible?

Because my website has 6 different services I have made 6 ‘service pages’. This pages are just used for an introduction on my homepage with the widget ‘Sydney FP Services type B’. For further information about my services I used new pages with the ‘full width’ template. I would like to know if the service pages made with the widget ‘Sydney FP Services type B’ are visible for my visitors? Because i really don’t like the lay-out of them as individual pages as in this situation: domain.com/services/example. I just use them as short introduction at my homepage. Can you tell me more about this?

If i use the ‘Sydney: Contact Info’ widget in my footer i get a lot of space between the top and bottom. A lot of unused space, this doesn’t give the footer a nice look and feel. Can you tell me if I can decrease the amount of ‘space’ above and below my contact info?

I also want to know how i can change the ‘Proudly powered by WordPress | Theme: Sydney by aThemes.’ text at the absolute bottom of my page. Can you tell me more about this?

I hope that you can help me with all my questions and looking forward to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Jeroen

Hello there,

Thank you for posting in.

> I would like to use a different header for every page. Can you tell me if this is possible?

Yes, it is possible. Please refer here.

> Also I would like to know if it is possible to change the color of the title of every page?

Try to apply the following CSS code:

.hentry .title-post{
  color: #FFA500;
}

> Because i really don’t like the lay-out of them as individual pages as in this situation: domain.com/services/example. I just use them as short introduction at my homepage. Can you tell me more about this?

If I am not wrong catching your point, yes it is possible. You can enter the page URL that you wish to be associated with the respective service item in the “Service link” field.

> Can you tell me if I can decrease the amount of ‘space’ above and below my contact info?

Try to apply the following CSS code:

.footer-widgets {
   padding: 25px 0;
}

> I also want to know how i can change the ‘Proudly powered by WordPress | Theme: Sydney by aThemes.’ text at the absolute bottom of my page. Can you tell me more about this?

It can be managed through Appearance > Customize > Sydney Pro options > Footer credits.

I hope this reply helps.

Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thankyou very much for your quick reply. I have changed my footer credits, thank you for the help.

I have also tried to change the title color but it have only caused some trouble on my website to be fair. Before i tried to apply the changes my website looked ‘aligned wider’ Now it looks like my website is centered more and has more blank space both left and right. I have made some screenshots of them. Is there a possibility that i can send you the screenshots?

FYI: i have tried to change the css code in the style.css file through my wordpress editor…

I hope that you can help me

Kind regards,

Jeroen

Dear Kharis,

I am sorry for my previous post. I have found the problem by myself, the problem was that I used a plugin that created the mess. Everything is back ok now.

But I still have the problem that I have tried to apply all the css codes in my style.css file through my Wordpress Editor but nothing works. Is there something that I’m doing wrong? I saw that the css codes already existed for the page title and the footer widget so I have put in the extra lines or changed some numbers 25 instead of 95 for example.

I’m not very familiar with the codes and I am new to this world so I hope that you can help me.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Jeroen

Dear Jeroen,

It isn’t recommended to apply custom CSS code directly into the style.css file from theme editor. Unless it is the child theme’s.

Try to use the Simple Custom CSS instead if you haven’t used a child theme, yet.

> I have tried to apply all the css codes in my style.css but nothing works. Is there something that I’m doing wrong?

Try to validate your custom CSS code here before you applying them. Make sure they are error free.

Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thank you very much for your help.

Everything is working just out fine and I’m almost finished with my website. With the ‘Simple Custom Css’ plugin I was able to change the header image for every single page. Only when I look on my iPhone, i see the old header image at very page.

Can you tell me how i can fix this?

Also I have an image gallery at every page with the width of 6 images. (6 columns). At mobile this looks very ‘busy’. Is there a custom css code to have the image with a width of 3 images at mobile devices?

I hope to hear from you soon!

Kind regards,
Jeroen

> Only when I look on my iPhone, i see the old header image at very page.

Try to clear your browser’s cache.

> Is there a custom css code to have the image with a width of 3 images at mobile devices?

If possible, could you please share your URL here so I can get the exact selector in order to make me able to provide working code?

Regards,
Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have some additional questions as well.

  1. I have tried to clear my browser’s cache but this doesn’t seem to be the problem. If you for example look at http://aenbevents.nl/bruiloften at your mobile device and at your desktop you see two different headers…

  2. The gallery is on multiple pages but also on http://aenbevents.nl/bruiloften

  3. Can you tell me if it is possible to change my 404 page. I have tried it but I got a error. So i have reset the 404 page.

  4. If you look at http://aenbevents.nl you see that i have used the services and employee widgets on my homepage. But i don’t want the pages http://aenbevents.nl/employees/jan-dirk-stouten/ visible (for example this page). This is the same for http://aenbevents.nl/services/bruiloften/. Can you tell me if it is possible to hide these pages so that they are only visible at the homepage.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
Jeroen

Good afternoon:

I have an urgent problem to solve

“Installing pro plugin displays me the following error
Decompressing …
Installing the plugin …
Could not decompress the package. No plugins found.
Failure to install the plugin.
Back to plugins”

Note: Install all plugins and the problem continues.

Thank you,

Hello there,

Try to apply !important declaration.

.page-id-259 .header-image {
    background-image: url('http://aenbevents.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/bruiloft_new.jpg') !important;
}

> 2

Try to apply the following CSS code:

@media only screen and (max-width: 991px){

  .gallery .gallery-item{
    padding: 5px;
  }

}

@media only screen and (min-width: 769px) and (max-width: 991px) {

  .gallery .gallery-item{
    padding: 5px;
  }

}

@media only screen and (min-width: 641px) and (max-width: 768px) {

  .gallery .gallery-item{
    max-width: 25%;
    margin-bottom: 10px;
    padding: 5px;
  }

}

@media only screen and (max-width: 640px){

  .gallery .gallery-item{
    max-width: 33%;
    margin-bottom: 10px;
  }

}

> 3.

> I have tried it but I got a error

Could you please explain what you have done?

> 4

It seems like you’ve been able to manage it. Have I missed something?

Regards,
Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thank you for your quick reply. Below my comments on your answers.

  1. I still have the same problem. To be clear I want to have the same header at both the desktop version and mobile version. Now I have a special header at every page at desktop (Wedding rings @ the wedding page for example) but at mobile I have the default header. The !Important code didn’t change anything…

  2. It works, thank you very much!

  3. I have tried to change my 404 page with FileZilla but it didn’t work. The error that I received was: ‘Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘sydney’ (T_STRING) in /public/sites/www.aenbevents.nl/wp-content/themes/sydney-pro-ii/404.php on line 15’

  4. I managed to hide them from my website but once you type the url in your browser you still manage to see the page (http://aenbevents.nl/employees/jan-dirk-stouten/). Is it possible to hide the page completely so that you get a 404 error when you use that URL?

I hope to hear from you soon!

Kind regards,

Jeroen

Please I need answer on case # 259860

Thanks

Dear @aotto,

What plugin you were trying to install? Would you please share its URL here?

Could you confirm if the wp-content > plugins directory is writable? Please refer here.

Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Did you find the possibility to help me with my questions?

I hope to hear from you soon…

Kind regards,
Jeroen

Dear Jeroen,

I would like to apologize in advance for the delayed respond.

Try to apply the following:

body.page-id-259 div.header-image {
    background-image: url('http://aenbevents.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/bruiloft_new.jpg') !important;
}

body.page-id-259 div.header-image img{
  opacity: 0;
}

> 3

Please share the content of that file here, so I can inspect it.

> 4

You can redirect that URL by using the Safe Redirect Manager plugin. Once you have installed and activated this plugin, go to Tools > Save Redirect Manager > Create Redirect Rule. In the field that says “Redirect From:”, enter http://aenbevents.nl/employees/jan-dirk-stouten/. In the field that says “Redirect To:”, enter http://aenbevents.nl/not-found

Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thank you very much for your reply. Both questions 1 and 4 are resolved!

Here is the content for question number 3:

If it is possible I would like to delete the search option from my 404 page and link the word ‘homepage’ to my homepage (http://aenbevents.nl).

I hope you can make this work!

Kind regards,
Jeroen

Dear Jeroen,

> 3

Try to replace your 404.php with this one.

Kharis

Dear Kharis,

Thankyou very much!

That’s all. I have finished my first website and I am currently making progress with my next website.

If I have any further questions I will let you know.

Many thanks again!

Kind regards
Jeroen

Dear Kharis,

I’m sorry but I have another question. I’m building a new website in the same style as www.aenbevents.nl but I have a problem with the white space on my website.

Can you tell me what I need to do to change the amount of white space between different ‘blocks’/‘rows’ on my website? Can you also tell me what I need to do to change the white space below and above a page like http://aenbevents.nl/bruiloften/?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,
