One click demo import had errors and sections not displaying properly

Good day! I got a number of errors in import. Some here:

New AJAX call!
[WARNING] Failed to import product_type external
[WARNING] Failed to import product_type grouped
[WARNING] Failed to import product_type simple
[WARNING] Failed to import product_type variable

Now I don’t know what to do to correct this. (I deleted and reinstalled the theme but it obviously didn’t delete any of the imported sections etc.) Please advise. I’m not an overly technical guy :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks very much!

Hello @dohagan,

These warnings are related to WooCommerce. Don’t worry, it’s normal

Please feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Thanks Roman. However please check out http://www.kickfire.org/ as a number of sections are not displaying properly.

Cheers!

Hello @dohagan,

Can you please try to manually delete imported content and then import it once again using option 2 from respective documentation page (see link below)?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Sure Roman, will do.

Is there a quick and easy way to delete the imported content? (I’d like to wipe everything out and start over.)

Thanks very much!

David

Hello David,

Please check this tutorial:

But please make sure that you don’t have important things on your site that you would like to save.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman

Thanks for your follow up. I followed your instructions and deleted everything and installed the xml file from option 2 (manual option) as you suggested.

Please check the site at http://www.kickfire.org/. There a very large menu bar with every page linked there but then only some blog posts making up the rest of the page.

Was I not supposed to get the same structure on as on the demo site? Even though the site now doesn’t have broken bits like it did before I deleted everything, it seems to be missing many sections.

Am I doing something wrong? (I’m not sure why it seems that this is quite difficult. Is it not possible that when you install a theme that all the demo sections are already in place?)

Thanks again for your guidance!

David

Hello David,

  1. Please create your own menu, you can learn more about how to do it on this WordPress Codex page:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

  2. Now you have to set a static front page, please check the video below in order to learn more about it.

Hi Roman

I’m not clear why setting up this theme is so difficult. I followed your direction re menus but feel that I’m doing it somewhat blindly since ideally the demo site menu is already there.

I tried importing the demo content from http://docs.athemes.com/article/136-quick-start-guide-astrid (option 1/automatic) and it failed.

Is there not an easy way to just get the demo content into my site so I can simply modify the existing content rather than starting from scratch?

Thanks!

Hello David,

What exactly is your current issue?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman

My issue is that I’m unable to get the demo site structure into my site. I’m currently stuck with a largely blank site with minimal structure (pre-built sections and pages, etc).

What do you recommend?

Thanks!

Hello David,

It looks like you are using Parallax One theme. Please contact Parallax One support regarding this issue.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Good day Roman

I was swapping in other themes to test, but I’m still keen to use the Astrid theme since I like it best.

It would be great if you could assist with getting the sample site structure in place. Following the instructions online as well as yours has not allowed me to get the same demo site structure loaded.

Can you please provide me instructions that I can follow to populate the Astrid theme with the Astrid demo site sample structure?

Thanks very much!

Hello David,

Can you please make a clean install on a localhost or in staging environment and try to import demo content using first option?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman

Thanks for your quick reply.

I’m not sure what you mean by local host or staging environment. I have WP installed on my site that his hosted with Dreamhost.

I have already used the Database Reset plugin to reset the tables and imported the demo content again. But on the second import (the one where I was following your suggestion) it only brought in very limited demo content.

Can you please send me the link of the specific page you’re recommending I download the demo content from?

Thanks very much!

Hello David,

You can download demo content file here:
http://docs.athemes.com/article/136-quick-start-guide-astrid

Did you check Download and import file attachments checkbox when you imported demo content according to option 2?

Here is an interesting link regarding localhost:

Kind Regards, Roman.

Good day Roman

I just followed the Option 2 instructions again (and did tick the ‘Download and import file attachments’ box.

I got ‘failed to import product_type’ errors once the import was completed, where it failed to import product types: external, grouped, simple, variable.

Please look at the site http://www.kickfire.org/ now as I haven’t done anything further than the import. Is this the way it should be after the import? (It definitely doesn’t look like the demo site.)

Thanks again!

Hello David,

Please create a menu and set a static front page, I described it in this answer:

Then please configure your home page accordingly to Astrid Documentation (because now that page seems to be empty):
http://docs.athemes.com/category/137-astrid

Kind Regards, Roman.

Ok I’ll give that a go, but I presumed when I import the demo site content that it would set all that up for me. Is that not the point of the demo site import?

I’ve used other themes that I don’t have to do any of this. When I activate the theme all the structure is already there.

But thanks, I’ll give it a try.

David

Hello David,

You are right, that is the point of demo site import. But it’s not working for you for some reason, I’m not sure why. Usually that works without any issues.

Kind Regards, Roman.
