Image displays wrong size in Latest News widget

I use the Latest News Sydney widget to display my blog posts, but one image is not displaying in the same size as the other 2. The featured image size I use is 600x950. Here is a link to the screenshot http://imgur.com/a/bdm1E

What can I do to solve this?
Thank you.

Hello AnaSantos,

Do you use featured images of the same aspect ratio?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Yes, I always use the same size. I use a template on Canva. I also noticed now, that in another page where I use SiteOrigin Image Grid the images are also not displaying the same size even though I use the same images from featured image and set them all to display in the same size (Full: 200x175 with 10px distance from each other). More interesting, is the fact this page shows different things on different browsers. This is how it looks in Internet Explorer http://imgur.com/a/5y1Oa and this is how it comes up on Google Chrome http://imgur.com/a/jxJkd

How can we solve this?

Hello AnaSantos,

I have just visited this page, and all images are of the same size. Have you already resolved this issue on that page?

I do can see the issue on your homepage though. Can you please try to reupload this image (or try to use another one)?

Also you can try to temporarily deactivate all your plugins except Sydney Toolbox and Page Builder by SiteOrigin, and see if it helps.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, the Start Here page is now working fine, but I didn’t get to deactivate plugins. I tried doing this to resolve the issue with the image on the Homepage, but it didn’t solve the problem. I also tried reducing the size of the image (it had 5000x3900px and 4mb) not the template (600x950), tried a different image on the same template and made a new template and the problem remains.

Can this widget have the images set to the size I use?

Thanks

Hello AnaSantos,

I don’t see such issue on my Sydney localhost install.

It looks like this issue requires close inspection, but this goes beyond our support policy. As an option, you can find a reputable freelancer on Upwork for this kind of service.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi,

Can this widget have the images set to the size I use 600x950? Paying a developer/freelance is not in my budget. If it was a problem with the picture It would have accepted when I changed to a new one.

I tried putting a featured image from an old post and it accepted it. What I notice is that the images that were in my Media (dashboard) before I changed to your theme are accepted, but this image is the first once since I changed themes and it does not accept the size format, thus why I ask again if the widget can be set to the image size of 600x950. Is it also possible to have 6 blog posts displays instead of 3?!

Thank you.

Hello AnaSantos,

Latest News widget uses 'sydney-medium-thumb' size that is set in functions.php, row 51. You might want to check this WordPress Codex page:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Thumbnails

You can try to change number of posts to display in widget’s .php file, row 79. But please note that you have to override it in a child theme in order to avoid losing modifications after theme update.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman,

I solved the image size issue. I simply changed the size on the theme.functions file (is this OK?) and then using the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. I didn’t make any changes on child theme because 1- I don’t know if I have one or 2-how to create one.

Thanks for your help.

Hello AnaSantos,

If you modified functions.php file directly, then you will have to repeat modification after theme update.

You might want to check these useful links:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

Also you can use a plugin to add PHP snippets instead of child theme functions.php file, for example Code Snippets.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman,

Thank you, I will check the links.

Regards

You are welcome AnaSantos!

Kind Regards, Roman.
