Hi. On charlesr.co.uk on a mobile, I can pinch to zoom. But on the Syndey demo, it’s disabled. I’d like to disable it on my site too. I couldn’t spot a setting for it. Hope I’m not being daft! Thanks for any advice. Charles
To completely disable it, the first thing to do is creating a child theme. To make the process much easier, you can use our premade child theme for Sydney which its download page is available on here. Unzip the package in your drive, then you need a copy of the parent theme’s header.php template file inside it. Then find this line:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
and replace it with:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no" />
Lastly, install and activate the child theme.
Also, maybe this is related, but if you go to a blog post (e.g. https://charlesr.co.uk/should-i-be-using-https-with-ssltls-encryption-on-my-website/) on a mobile, the width is weird - the menu appears off to one size initially with the text looking good, but I can zoom out, almost as if there is an invisible sidebar, at which point the menu is centred. The same thing happens with plugins deactivated.
Hadn’t seen your very rapid reply before I posted that 2nd one. So thanks for that info.
Ok, that change to the viewport meta worked perfectly. Many thanks!!
Any ideas about my other question about the blog post mobile width? On blog posts, I can slide the screen sideways (not on other content types)
Sorry, it was a long link that didn’t wrap to the next line. A bit odd, but I solved it by using link text words instead. Now marked as resolved.
