How do I create custom anchor points for one page linking?

#1

I wonder how to add custom anchor points in a one-page sydney website? When I edit “my front page” (which is the complete one-page) by adding
<a id=“about”></a> the whole website looses all formatting.
Is there a better way to create custom named anchor points?

(Without creating css widget class. Creating css widget class named “about” on a widget doesn’t even add the code into the “my front page” text - so a “about” menu link doesn’t take you anywhere on the site.)

Thank you!
