Error with deleting footer credits from site

Hi,

I tried changing the footer credits by using this advice from Roman: https://athemes.com/forums/topic/edit-footer/

I changed it in FileZilla, but now only shows the ‘loading’ screen, and on the top of the page a tiny bit of the website.

This is how the footer.php looks like now (I copied back the coding from Roman cause the other own customized coding didn’t work):

<?php
/**
 * The template for displaying the footer.
 *
 * Contains the closing of the #content div and all content after
 *
 * @package Perth
 */
?>
		</div>
	</div><!-- #content -->

    <a class="go-top"><i class="fa fa-angle-up"></i></a>

	<footer id="colophon" class="site-footer clearfix" role="contentinfo">

		<?php if ( is_active_sidebar( 'footer-1' ) ) : ?>
	    <div class="footer-area">
		    <div class="footer-branding">
				<h1 class="site-title"><a href="<?php echo esc_url( home_url( '/' ) ); ?>" rel="home"><?php bloginfo( 'name' ); ?></a></h1>
			</div>
			<?php get_sidebar('footer'); ?>
		</div>
		<?php endif; ?>

		<div class="site-info container">
<?php if ( get_theme_mod('footer_credits') == '') : ?>
<a href="<?php echo esc_url( __( 'http://wordpress.org/', 'sydney' ) ); ?>"><?php printf( __( 'Proudly powered by %s', 'sydney' ), 'WordPress' ); ?></a>
<span class="sep"> | </span>
<?php printf( __( 'Theme: %2$s by %1$s.', 'sydney' ), 'aThemes', '<a href="https://athemes.com/theme/sydney" rel="designer">Sydney</a>' ); ?>
<?php else : ?>
<?php echo get_theme_mod('footer_credits'); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
</div><!-- .site-info -->

How do I fix this?? I’m a bit stressed out

Or do you have the original documentation of footer.php (the whole thing) so I can at least fix it to the original file? Then at least my website is visible…

Okay so I fixed it an it’s back to the way it was before editing. But how do I custom the text on the right way?

Hello, that solution is for Sydney theme.

Please note that there is an option in Perth Pro theme, which will allow you to change footer credits very easily.

Please go to your public_html/wp-content/themes/perth folder via FTP or cPanel, open footer.php file with a text editor and find this code:

<a href="<?php echo esc_url( __( 'http://wordpress.org/', 'perth' ) ); ?>"><?php printf( __( 'Proudly powered by %s', 'perth' ), 'WordPress' ); ?></a>
			<span class="sep"> | </span>
			<?php printf( __( 'Theme: %2$s by %1$s.', 'perth' ), 'aThemes', '<a href="http://athemes.com/theme/perth" rel="designer">Perth</a>' ); ?>

…then replace it with something like that:

<p>Changed text</p>

Just replace Changed text with desired text or link.

Also please note that you have to create a child theme and override footer.php file in order to prevent your changes to be rewritten after theme update.

Kind Regards, Roman.
