Custom main menu

Good day, athemes community!

I’ve started customizing a website for my upcoming one-year business and project, which acts as a school project, and I’ve chosen to use the Perth theme.

It’s a great learning experience, as I’ve never used wordpress or run a real website before.

Now comes the problem: The main menu, yes the one under/on the side of the logo/business name, in the top menu: How do you customize it? I’ve found the menu page inside appearance, but that menu doesn’t seem to be there.

Is there a way to remove the pages that it lists (as I dont want a button for my home and blog page, my only two pages atm), and add buttons for curtain parts of the main page, that scrolls down to a specific part when you click one of the specific pages?

Thank you for the support,

Sens ibel

That menu is the ‘default’ menu, it’s just listing the pages you have.
You should create your own menu in the page you found inside Appearance, give it a name and then choose to use it in the Customize window.

Hello Jonas,

  1. Please check this WordPress Codex page:

  2. All you have to do is to create your menu items as custom links and use this link structure:

Just replace with your home page URL, and #section-id with the id of respective section.

You can find the id of an element by doing a right-click on it, select Inspect Element and find something like this:

<div id="pg-220-1" class="panel-grid"… - in this case, pg-220-1 is the id of a div element.

For more information you can refer to this guide.

Please feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

Kind Regards, Roman.
