Clickable elements too close together

Hi, just got this message from Google

New Mobile Usability issue detected for site https://madaraokogen.com/

Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 2 new Mobile Usability related issues. This means that Mobile Usability may be negatively affected in Google Search results. We encourage you to review and consider fixing these issues.

Top 2 new issues found, ordered by number of affected pages:

Content wider than screen
Clickable elements too close together

When I went to the affected page (https://madaraokogen.com/things-to-do-in-madarao-kogen/madarao-onsen/) on my mobile it seems like the header is just loading and you can’t see the content. Other pages didn’t seem to be affected and load correctly.

Hi,

Google Mobile Friendly tool isn’t loading the style sheet, I guess the page you’re having issue(s) with are too image heavy and it takes more to load then google analyzing the page, please optimize your images and let me know how it works then.

Kind Regards,
Csaba

Hi, I optimised media with Smush plugin and it worked okay when I checked on my phone. However when I tried to validate with Google they said the problems above were not fixed.

And I just received the same notice for another site (https://hakubatravel.com/hakuba-webcams/) using the same theme.

Hi,

Then, also try to take out a few things from your site and check which area causes the issue.

Kind Regards,
Csaba

Is it a css / theme issue? I’ve optimised all my images and still getting the error.

Hi,

It doesn’t seem to be a theme issue, if you only get the error on a few pages ( and the error you’ve got is because Google can’t load t=your style.css on that page, but the style.css is loading, because if it won’t load then your site would look like on the mobile device from the Google Mobile Friendly tool, but in reality it doesn’t look like that ).

Kind Regards,
Csaba

Okay, I’ll wait to see if any other errors come in because I’m pretty much stumped on what to do.

Hi there - I’ve just started receiving exactly the same two error message on a site using the Sydney Pro theme.

It’s happening on this pages:

I’ve looked through Google’s help and adjusted the page and it already had low file size images. Any pointers on how to fix this?

Many thanks.

Hi @waynethenewforestdog,

I’ve checked your page in Google’s Mobile Friendly tool and it is working fine: https://snag.gy/4XlpqK.jpg if you still see the error, please deactivate your third-party plugins and re-test, usually Cache plugins can cause the style.css not loading correctly in Google’s Mobile Friendly Check tool.

Csaba
