Cant change Footer.php - Error

Hey everyone,

i am just starting to use the sidney theme. i already know how to change the text in the footer, well i hopefully know what i am doing :slight_smile:

but if i change the text in the editor and try to “update file” an error appears:

“Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

even if i dont change anything, the error appears. same at “theme function”. on “style sheets” for example i can change and update.

what did i do? can someone help me? thank you in advance :slight_smile:

Hey Roman,

thanks for your answer. But it didnt helped with me with the problem :frowning:

this is my footer text at the moment:

<?php
/**
 * The template for displaying the footer.
 *
 * Contains the closing of the #content div and all content after
 *
 * @package Sydney
 */
?>
			</div>
		</div>
	</div><!-- #content -->

	<?php do_action('sydney_before_footer'); ?>

	<?php if ( is_active_sidebar( 'footer-1' ) ) : ?>
		<?php get_sidebar('footer'); ?>
	<?php endif; ?>

    <a class="go-top"><i class="fa fa-angle-up"></i></a>

	<footer id="colophon" class="site-footer" role="contentinfo">
		<div class="site-info container">
			<p>Changed text</p>
		</div><!-- .site-info -->
	</footer><!-- #colophon -->

	<?php do_action('sydney_after_footer'); ?>

</div><!-- #page -->

<?php wp_footer(); ?>

</body>
</html>

this should be the default text. i tried to enter the code u posted in that thread:

<div class="site-info container">
<p>Changed text</p>
</div><!-- .site-info -->

but it didnt help. the error still appears:

“Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

i cant even “update file” if i dont change anything. :frowning:

Hello Tobias,

You can reinstall the theme and try again.

Please remember about importance of regular full site backups (files and database):
