Can't activate sydney toolbox

When I try to activate sydney toolbox on http://www.privatejethiredirect.com I get the following error.

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error .

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home/sites/privatejethiredirect.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sydney-toolbox/sydney-toolbox.php on line 103

I’ve tried disabling ALL other plugins but still receive the error.

My host is Heart Interent and I don’t think they pose a problem as I have it running on a few other sites on the same servers and hosting account.

Hello, please check this topic, it might help:

Please feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

I saw that before I posted.

I tried rolling back Sydney toolbox but no difference.

Is the [ correct?

Hello, Sydney Toolbox plugin requires PHP 7.

Which PHP version do you have on your server?

Kind Regards, Roman.

I have version 7 active on the server.

As I said, I’m using toolbox on some other sites on the same server with the same host.

Hello,

I’m using toolbox on some other sites on the same server with the same host.

Well, then it means that the issue is site-specific. You can try to rebuild your website in a staging environment or locally and see if it works as it should (then you will be able to move rebuilt website to production environment). Please remember about importance of regular full site backups (files and database):

So, I plan to rebuild the site clean on a spare domain and then transfer it.

However, is there a way to backup my theme and child theme with all of the changes I’ve made to reduce the time on the rebuild?

Hello,

Please check this WordPress Codex page if you would like to learn more about how to properly backup WordPress website. Please feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

Kind Regards, Roman.

I don’t want to back up the whole site as I’ll be backing up the errors too.
I just want to know if I can back up the child theme and customisations.

Hello, you can backup your child theme by copying its folder.

I’m not sure what customisations you want to backup, can you please specify them?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Hi Roman,

Things like page builder templates, header slider, custom css.

I’m hoping that the following will work?:

-back up child theme customisations as above

  • db backup
  • drop site completely
  • re-install wp
  • re-install theme and child theme
  • restore the customisations
  • re-install required plugins
  • restore db

hopefully, it’s nothing in the db that is causing the toolbox issue?!

Hello,

That process looks okay, but I still suggest you to make full backup as well, just in case

By the way, you can try to use Customizer Export/Import plugin instead of full DB backup.

Kind Regards, Roman.
