BLOG: Read More, Header Formatting, Sidebar Widget

  1. I’ve searched through the forum and was unable to find a code that helped me. I would like to get rid of the […] and replace it with a clickable “read more” link for the blog posts page. Can you provide css code for this?

  2. Where do I got to add sidebar widgets on main blog page? Is this only a pro feature?

  3. Is there a way to change formatting, header fonts, for just my blog post pages it looks very bad at the moment using fonts that work nicely on homepage. Here is an example post:

Thank you!

Hello @mllomibao,

  1. Please check this solution:

  2. You can add widgets to your sidebar in DashboardAppearanceWidgets, or in DashboardAppearanceCustomizeWidgetsSidebar (but please make sure that preview window displays a page that contains sidebar).

  3. Please try to use the following CSS code.

You can add CSS code in DashboardAppearanceCustomizeAdditional CSS (WordPress 4.7 and up). Also you can add CSS code directly to style.css file of your child theme.

.title-post > a {
    font-family: "Raleway", sans-serif;

Kind Regards, Roman.

Thank you for your reply!!

  1. I did see this post and tried adding this code:
function new_excerpt_more($more) {
    global $post;
    return '<a>ID) . '"> Read More</a>';
add_filter('excerpt_more', 'new_excerpt_more');

To code snippet plugin, but still just […] showing?

2.Thank you, I’ll work on this.

  1. I added this, but it only works on blog posts page, not single blog post page: Do you have the css code for differnent h titles?

  2. Can you also give CSS code for hiding blog author names on posts?

Thank you!!

  1. I have tested that code snippet on my localhost and it works for me. Can you please explain how exactly you added the code? By the way, looks like your code contains errors, please try to copy it once again.

  2. It looks like this issue requires some coding and testing, this goes beyond our support policy. It’s considered advanced customization. As an option, you can contact Codeable for this kind of service, or find a freelancer on Upwork.

  3. Did you try to hide post meta in Dashboard → Appearance → Customize → Blog options → Meta section?

Kind Regards, Roman.

Thank you Roman!

  1. I copied code above to the code area of the “code snippet” plugin and clicked “save changes and activate”. Not showing up yet.

  2. I tried sidebar widget but there is huge spacing in between widgets, is there a way to customize spacing?

  3. This works if I check off in meta, but it hides everything including date. Is there a way only to hide author?

Thank you again!

  1. I have just tested it again and it works, please try to copy it below once again.
function new_excerpt_more($more) {
    global $post;
    return '<a class="moretag" href="'. get_permalink($post->ID) . '"> Read More</a>';
add_filter('excerpt_more', 'new_excerpt_more');
  1. Please try to use this CSS code:
.widget-area .widget {
    margin-bottom: 10px !important;
    padding-top: 10px !important;
  1. Please try to use this CSS code instead of hiding all post meta:
span.byline > {
    display: none;

But please note that author will still be visible in page code.

Kind Regards, Roman.

Thank you for all of your prompt responses!

Everything seems to be in order now. I’ll start a new thread with any new questions.

Take care Roman!

You are welcome @mllomibao! :slight_smile:
